Pattern cutting is using a template which is then pinned and traced before being cut out and constructed to make your garment block.
The 4 key blocks of a garment are trousers, a bodess, a skirt and sleeves. These garment blocks can help you make most garments for a dress you need 2 blocks a bodess and a skirt. Another example is if you want to make a playsuit you need a bodess and trousers and then you cut the trousers shorter to make shorts.
