What is Primary and Secondary research ?

Primary research is research that you undertake yourself, this could be simply finding and collecting items, photography, or obtaining your own data. Primary research is usually more time consuming and expensive.

Secondary research is research that somebody else has collected, secondary research is the opposite of primary research in that it is a lot quicker to find and usually costs nothing or very little. A downside of using secondary research is you cannot verify whether the source is credible and trustworthy. So it’s sometimes good to check a source by searching points or information in a search engine to see if this matches with any other source. Any secondary research used must be clearly referenced or added into a bibliography at the end of your article or post.

The importance of sourcing both primary and secondary research is so that you can get a broad view on a topic or subject. Utilising secondary research enables you to validate your primary research, findings and opinions.
