Shingo Sato Research

TR Cutting stands for Transformational Reconstruction Technique, this combines 2-D pattern making with drapping fabric on a mannequin using 3-D techniques to create the garment or piece.

This is Shingo Sato’s technique. Shingo Sato is a designer and pattern maker, who has written 2 books on Transformational Reconstruction and he also has a school called TR Cutting School.

It is used to create interesting and unique garments just using fabric without even embellishing it.

One benefit of TR Cutting depending on the design is less seams and darts as they may be incorporated with in the design so therefore they are less obvious.

The photo below shows a dress made by Shingo Sato using his technique of TR Cutting. I found the photo from the TR Cutting School’s Facebook page.

This dress has been carefully designed, so that the darts are incorporated into the design, therefore they are not noticeable.

The dress perfectly fits the mannequin, Shingo Sato has combined black and grey fabric for this particular design. This dress has alternate curvy panels of grey and black. The panels start at the neck and they run all the way to the bottom of the dress. All the edges of the dress are raw and have not been hemmed.

I love this dress especially the design which includes the darts within it.

Both of the photos below are from the TR Cutting School’s Facebook page. The first photo shows Shingo Sato making a pattern to create his dress from. The second photo shows the dress Shingo Sato made using the pattern he made and the technique of TR Cutting.

This photo shows how Shingo Sato creates his pattern for his TR Cutting simply with a marker pen and some paper or fabric draped over the mannequin.

This dress looks like it could have been made out of denim, as it is a darker blue and looks like it has a similar texture. This dress has been tailored to perfectly fit the mannequin, with lo of curved line panels being sewn together to create this amazing dress with an incredible design. There are raw edges on this garment, which have not been hemmed.
